Choose the format first
Freestanding combi models are commonly built for narrower spaces. American-style and multi-door models are much wider—often around 84 cm and above—so a 60 cm opening is not a realistic match for that format. Integrated appliances need the cabinet niche and door arrangement to match.

Measure the usable space
Measure width, height and depth at more than one point because walls and floors may not be square. Allow the clearances stated by the manufacturer rather than assuming the appliance can touch surrounding units.
Test the door swing
Handles and thick doors can need space beyond the cabinet width. Check whether drawers can be removed when a door opens only to 90 degrees and whether a nearby wall or island blocks access.
Map the delivery route
Measure external doors, hallways, turns, stairs and the narrowest internal doorway. Compare packaged dimensions as well as product dimensions, and check whether retailer delivery includes unpacking or door removal.
Compare capacity and running needs
Compare usable litres and internal layout rather than exterior size alone. Consider freezer habits, shelf adjustability, noise location and the energy information shown for the exact model.
